The Assassin’s Creed movie trailer premiered on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night. It was… intriguing. You never know what to expect from spectacles such as these. I can’t for the life of me think of a video game adaptation that has been critically acclaimed. But hopefully this attempt, directed by Justin Kurzel, starts a new trend for industry.

The film stars Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch, a “career criminal” that is put to down for his slights against society. It’s here that Marion Cotillard steps in as a representative of Abstergo Industries, the company that plans to put Lynch through his paces within the Aminus Project. The film appears to be aiming to hit the sci-fi notes pretty hard that only really exhibit themselves in the background of the game series. That’s true for the trailer at least, we’ll see how much the Aminus Project is focused on in the film itself.

Assassin's Creed
The Aminus Project.

Fassenbender’s Lynch is wanted for his access to his ancestor’s DNA, and is taken via the Aminus to the Spanish Inquisition. And that’s when we get begin to see the action and parkour that the Assassin’s Creed series is known for. There are some beautiful tower shots that shout as call outs to the game fans, plus a few other winks that are sure to be more prominent in the actual film. Checkout the trailer below to see it all for yourself.

Assassin’s Creed the movie hits theaters on December 21st.

Growing up a 90's kid, Jeff found his love for gaming during Nintendo's heyday. Because of that, you could call him a "Nintendo Fanboy" (albeit a rational one) to this day. Outside of his passion for the gaming industry, he’s also an avid sports enthusiast (New York Giants and Philadelphia Phillies mainly) and enjoys quality/popular TV shows and movies.
