Ubisoft has pulled the hood back on the next installment of the Assassin’s Creed series. Dubbed Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, the title is set to take place in the Victorian era of London.

Within Ubisoft’s press release today comes the first official description of the game:

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is an epic single player experience set in London during the height of the Industrial Revolution, an incredible age of invention that transforms the lives of millions. During this time, the gap between the poor and the rich expands exponentially, making workers’ lives little more than legalized slavery. The lower classes fight for survival by forming a new kind of family – gangs — and adapting to a life in the underworld. Players will embody both Jacob Frye and Evie Frye, twin Assassins raised to follow the Creed. Jacob, a determined, hot-headed and rebellious leader of an underground gang, is vastly different from his sister Evie, a master of stealth and control. Together, Jacob and Evie team up to challenge rivals, plutocrats and Templars alike to free the masses from poverty and corruption, and ultimately wrestle back control of London.”

The city of London is just one of seven Burroughs you’ll be exploring in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. Horse-drawn carriages and high-speed trains will help you navigate what Ubisoft is calling “the largest, most modern open-world city yet in an Assassin’s Creed game.” Watching the trailer (which we’ve embedded below) you can also see Jacob using his rope launcher and utilizing zip-lines to aid him in quickly getting around the city.

It sounds as though multiplayer may be thrown out this time around based upon the press release’s phrasing. The siblings are likely to have two different styles of gameplay. Evie is described as a “master of stealth and control” so she’ll likely be the one with a bit more finesse. Ubisoft is also putting an emphasis on combat, describing it as “more brutal than ever.”

What’s not mentioned by Ubisoft is the fact that Jack the Ripper was terrorizing London in 1888. According to Wikipedia, the Victorian era just happens to run from 1837 to 1901. Evie better watch her back…

Check out the two videos that were released below. The first is Assassin’s Creed Syndicate‘s first trailer. The second is a 9 minutes of pre-alpha gameplay footage from the developers. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate has already been dated for October 23rd for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
