Pokémon Go

Niantic, Inc. CEO, John Hanke, teased fans last week with impending Pokémon Go news. He insinuated that new Pokémon would be introduced into the game following an announced on December 12th (today). And while he didn’t lie, fans are tad underwhelmed about today’s reveal.

We’re Going to Have to Wait a Bit Longer for Generation 2 Proper…

After data mining the game, it was found that the next 100 (Generation 2) Pokémon had been put into the Pokémon Go code. So when Hanke teased new Pokémon, fans instantly thought a huge addition to the Pokedex was on the way. Turns out, it’s just a minor one:

“Trainers,

Professor Willow has discovered Togepi and Pichu hatching from Eggs! Starting later today, Trainers will have the opportunity to hatch these and several other Pokémon that were originally discovered in the Johto Region in Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver video games. These are the first of more Pokémon coming to Pokémon GO over the next few months.”

Here the list of the 8 baby Pokémon being implemented thanks to the Pokémon Go Reddit:

  • Pichu (-> Pikachu)
  • Togepi (-> Togetic)
  • Cleffa (-> Clefairy)
  • Magby (-> Magmar)
  • Igglybuff (-> Jigglypuff)
  • Tyrogue (-> Hitmontop, Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee)
  • Elekid (-> Electabuzz)
  • Smoochum (-> Jynx)

Note that with the addition of Togepi and Tyrogue, we should now be able to evolve those into Togetic and Hitmontop which were not previously in the game. You can catch the reveal trailer just below. OH! And you can catch Pikachus with hats now. So there’s that…
