Stainless Games is bringing Camageddon back to consoles. The Newport-based studio has announced that their upcoming vehicular combat game Carmageddon: Max Damage will release later this year on June 3. The follow-up to the crowdfunded Carmageddon: Reincarnation is coming to both Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

It was also announced that the title will launch both at retail and digitally thanks to a partnership with Sold Out Sales & Marketing Limited. This will enable a global release for the latest in the car combat series. It will set gamers back $39.99 in North America or £29.99 in the developer’s native UK.

To celebrate the release date announcement, Stainless Games released a brand new trailer. The minute long video, which you can watch below, shows off what gamers can expect from the latest title in the Carmageddon series, which is of course a ton of destruction.

Sold Out Sales & Marketing Limited’s CEO Garry Williams was excited about the global partnership. “Carmageddon has an infamous 19 year legacy, it’s a one-of-a-kind franchise, and we felt that a Stainless Games and Sold Out partnership would be no different,” said Williams. “We’re delighted to be riding shotgun with Stainless Games on Carmageddon: Max Damage, and look forward to the insanity ahead.”

Equally ecstatic was Stainless Games’ Publishing Director Jason Garber. “Working with Sold Out to bring [the game] to retail is not only a significant new chapter in the history of the brand and studio, but vitally, enables us to unleash our motoring mayhem upon the console world,” said Garber. Jason also expressed excitement that they’ll be able to hit both the physical and digital marketplaces at the same time.

It’s great to see such a long-running series receive a physical release, and both parties seem thrilled at the announcement. The controversial violence that made the games a hit in the 90s is more prosaic now, but there’s still an audience for it considering the successful crowdfunding effort that made Carmageddon: Reincarnation possible.

Fans that are itching to get behind the wheel and cause some damage won’t have to wait long as Carmageddon: Max Damage is out June 3 globally. The car combat game will release on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 for $39.99.

Tyler has enjoyed video games, both large and small, ever since he was a child with a Sega Genesis controller in hand. When he isn’t playing through strange retro games like Snoopy’s Silly Sports Spectacular, he can be found meditating under a waterfall to grow his beard or eating pizza. Probably the latter.
