Arms Direct

As promised, Nintendo hosted a Nintendo Direct yesterday focusing on their upcoming fighter Arms. It was pretty extensive, running for nearly twenty minutes solely focusing on Arms. Here is some of what we learned.

Time to Start Working on Those Biceps.

The Direct started out with some actual lore for the game. It turns out no one knows where the extendable appendages come from. We then moved on to “Arms 101″, covering the absolute basics of the game for anyone unaware.

From there Nintendo began focusing on some of the individual characters of the game: Spring Man, Mechanica, Ninjara, Master Mummy, and Kid Cobra. Showing how different characters and their attributes can effect the flow of a match. Later, we were also introduced to Ribbon Girl, Min Min, Helix, Byte and Barq and Twintelle.

Arms will host a boastful multiplayer Versus mode. Two to four players can join in. Varieties include straight up Fight mode with random items being strewn about the battlefield. There’s also Team Fight, an awesome looking Volleyball game, Basketball, Skill shots mode, and a 1 vs. 100 test.

The Direct then went on to discuss the online options for Arms. It’s essentially your typical variety of modes there. Nintendo also confirmed that future updates through the Summer, including new fighters, stages and arms, will all be free. Finally, Nintendo announced an Arms “Global Testpunch”. On May 26th, May 27th, May 28th, June 2nd, June 3rd and June 4th, players can download the game and play online for free much like Splatoon 2 did earlier this year with it’s “Test Fire”.

Check it all out for yourself below. Arms launches for Nintendo Switch on June 16th.

Growing up a 90's kid, Jeff found his love for gaming during Nintendo's heyday. Because of that, you could call him a "Nintendo Fanboy" (albeit a rational one) to this day. Outside of his passion for the gaming industry, he’s also an avid sports enthusiast (New York Giants and Philadelphia Phillies mainly) and enjoys quality/popular TV shows and movies.
