NHL 17 - Vision Trailer

Electronic Arts and EA Canada specifically stumbled out of the gate a bit with the NHL series on our now current generation of consoles. While revered series last generation, NHL 15 hit the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One with Metascores of 59 and 60 respectively. The following year they got their act together and nailed a solid 78 and 80 average for the 2016 versions. Now, the developers are ready to double down and show why NHL 17 will be the definitive version of the hockey sim series to own. And they’re ready to begin showing us with their new Vision Trailer.

The new trailer starts out with a heavy promise: “Legacies aren’t shaped overnight. Whether they’re built on the ice, behind the bench, or in the front office, no two NHL legacies are the same. And we took that to heart when we set out to build NHL 17.” Our narrator then goes on to mention some specifics, beginning with gameplay: “Our focus is to make sure we’re improving gameplay in all three zones. Through deeper and more customizable experiences in our most popular modes, and by engaging fans in across aspects of development, we’re creating new experiences that add up to our biggest and most exciting hockey game to date. ”

The trailer goes on to mentions improvements in Franchise mode and International competition – while showing a quick clip from the “Miracle on Ice.” Nice touch. There wasn’t really anything in-depth shown yet, EA appears to be holding things close to their sweater until EA. They promise more during the “summer”. We’ll let you know when they let some news off the bench, until then, how about you cast your vote for the NHL 17 cover athlete here.

Growing up a 90's kid, Jeff found his love for gaming during Nintendo's heyday. Because of that, you could call him a "Nintendo Fanboy" (albeit a rational one) to this day. Outside of his passion for the gaming industry, he’s also an avid sports enthusiast (New York Giants and Philadelphia Phillies mainly) and enjoys quality/popular TV shows and movies.
