A bit of history is underway in London. Pinewood Studios is playing host to birth of an icon. But he wasn’t always that. StarWars.com revealed that the untitled Han Solo film has begun principal photography as of yesterday. They also dropped word on when we can expect the movie in theaters as well.
“Smuggler. Scoundrel. Hero.”
To celebrate the rolling of cameras, the main crew of the upcoming Star Wars story posted a group shot inside the Millennium Falcon. Clockwise from bottom left you’ll see co-director Christopher Miller, Woody Harrelson, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke, Joonas Suotamo inside his Chewbacca suit, the film’s other co-director Phil Lord, and Donald Glover:
Here are Lord and Miller expressing their excitement about getting the movie production underway:
“Watching such inspired people from all over the world, with such unique voices, come together for the sole purpose of making art, is nothing short of miraculous. We can’t think of anything funny to say, because we just feel really moved, and really lucky.”
The StarWars blog states that the Han Solo film will “explore the duo’s adventures before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, including their early encounters with that other card-playing rogue from a galaxy far, far away, Lando Calrissian.” The role of Lando, of course, is being handled by the fantastic Donald Glover.
On top of the production news, we also have a release date. And it’s a bit sooner than many probably though. The Han Solo film will release on May 25th, 2018, avoiding the December slot that the two most recent Star Wars films have slid into. I’ve got a good feeling about this…
