X-Men: Apocalypse - Wolverine

Well, today appears to be the day for “final” trailers I guess. 20th Century Fox has just released their final trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse and it appears to cover all the appropriate beats.

Apocalypse promising to destroy the world and rebuild it in his image? Check. Magneto having an identity crisis, deciding that he’s totally evil, and telling Charles that he’s stupid for thinking otherwise? Check. A nice quick look at all four horsemen (and horsewomen) of the apocalypse? Check. Xavier goes down at the (giant) hands of Apocalypse, Mystique takes on a leadership role, all the students step up to fight even though they don’t know how? Check, check and check. All we’re missing now is a Wolverine cameo… Check. Wait – what?

It’s been pretty ambiguous whether Hugh Jackman reprises his role as Wolverine in this film. After being the focal point of X-Men: Day of Future Past, the official word was that Logan wasn’t in this movie. Well, take a look at this gif from the end of the trailer and tell me that isn’t our adamantium addled pal – it’s brilliant marketing:

What we don’t know, and won’t until reviews start coming in, is how much of the film Jackman actually appears in. At the end of Days of Future Past, Logan was transported back to his present which had him reuniting with the cast from the original X-Men trilogy. His appearance in X-Men: Apocalypse would be a much younger Logan that is probably still of the Weapon X variety. The idea of a young Wolverine that has nothing to do with X-Men Origins: Wolverine is intriguing as hell though.

The trailer as a whole is pretty good and sets us up well for the battle that is just a month away. X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27th.
