The Dark Tower

As someone that read Stephen King’s Dark Tower series, it’s extremely exciting that this movie happening. With that said, I have no clue how they plan to tackle this massive story. And with today’s reveal of the first full trailer for The Dark Tower, I’m still left more questions than answers.

“There Are Other Worlds Than These.”

I won’t go into book specifics for fear of spoilers, but the film’s plot looks to revolve heavily around Jake, a young boy from New York City. Matthew McConaughey portrays the Man in Black – a villain “worse” than the devil. And Idris Elba plays our main character of Roland Deschain – aka The Gunslinger.

Jake is having dreams about Roland and the Man in Black. However his therapist stresses that they’re just that – dreams – and they’re nothing to worry about. Until, of course, Jake finds a portal that brings him to their world. The Dark Tower plot essentially comes down to the Man in Black trying to destroy the Tower. While Roland attempts to save it. Here’s Sony’s official description:

“There are other worlds than these. Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, the ambitious and expansive story from one of the world’s most celebrated authors, makes its launch to the big screen. The last Gunslinger, Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), has been locked in an eternal battle with Walter O’Dim, also known as the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey), determined to prevent him from toppling the Dark Tower, which holds the universe together. With the fate of the worlds at stake, good and evil will collide in the ultimate battle as only Roland can defend the Tower from the Man in Black.”

The trailer is good, if not a little confusing. Hopefully all will be made clear when The Dark Tower releases on August 4th.
