In one of the more impactful moments from last night, Geoff Keighley stood onstage for over three and half minutes and delivered a hell of a monologue. While taking not so subtle jabs at Konami, Keighley praised the discipline and perseverance Hideo Kojima showed over the last year. Then, he finally pulled him on stage as he should have been last year to earn his award for Metal Gear Solid V. Hideo Kojima was then given The Game Awards Industry Icon Award.
It’s About Damn Time
Infamously, Kojima, still under the last few days of his contract with Konami, was barred from attending The Game Awards last year. Kojima’s good friend and host of the event, Geoff Keighley, of course took slight. Keighley made it known last year, and doubled down this year. He delivered a heartfelt appreciation speech for the Industry Icon last night, we you can checkout below:
Kojima, humble and appreciative, gave the world a gif in return. A brand new trailer for his upcoming game, Death Stranding. I would attempt to break the trailer down for you – but I have no idea what the hell transpired. Guillermo Del Toro appeared to be a focal point. Holding a seemingly unborn baby within a clear mechanical womb of sorts, he spent the entire trailer attempting to hide from humanoid looking Krang-tentacle having soldiers. Yeah, that’s all I got.
At the end, it was revealed that one of the leaders of these soldiers is being played by none other than Mads Mikkelson. However, there was no Norman Reedus to be found this time around. You have to see it for yourself, which you can do below. Congrats, Kojima. You deserve it.
