Oceanhorn originally released on iOS in November of 2013. A couple of years later, it found its way onto PC. Then, this last May, it launched on Mac. Now, finally, the title has its sails set for a console release.

“The Legend of Oceanhorn”

It’s no secret that Oceanhorn is a near blatant rip-off of The Legend of Zelda series. The game screams The Wind Waker and A Link to the Past from the second you lay eyes on it. Hell, even when just listening to the new trailer you can tell where the soundtrack gets its DNA from. You almost think it’s pulled directly from The Wind Waker. But really, this is all a good thing. Mimicry is the highest form of compliment after all.

The game revolves around a legendary sea monster, the titular Oceanhorn. A father leaves his young boy to go out in search of the fabled creature. Then you, as the boy, are tasked with following in his footsteps when he doesn’t return. When the initially released in iOS it fared quite well with reviews at 85% on Metacritic. The PC release also performed admirably. Now, it’s time for us console folk.

If you haven’t heard of Oceanhorn, take a peek at the trailer below. You’ll know pretty much immediately where it gets its influence from and whether the type of game is for you. Oceanhorn lands on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 7th.

Growing up a 90's kid, Jeff found his love for gaming during Nintendo's heyday. Because of that, you could call him a "Nintendo Fanboy" (albeit a rational one) to this day. Outside of his passion for the gaming industry, he’s also an avid sports enthusiast (New York Giants and Philadelphia Phillies mainly) and enjoys quality/popular TV shows and movies.
