Nintendo Switch

During an earnings report, Gamestop’s COO Tony Bartlet had impressive things to say about the Nintendo Switch as far as sales go. And not just the Switch, but apparently The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild too.

It Has the “Potential to be Wii-like”

Barlet didn’t go into specifics as far as numbers go. But he did state that the demand is “incredibly strong”:

“The demand is incredibly strong for this. As soon as we get it into our stores, it’s out within hours. So we anticipate we’re going to be chasing supply this entire year.”

Gamestop’s COO then went on to elaborate on how games and peripherals, more specifically The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, were doing on the new console:

“The other thing is, every game that’s out there, to have over a five and a half attach rate to this, signifies that a lot of people are finding this a great platform and they’re picking up any games that they can. I mean, we have almost a one-to-one attach of Zelda.”

When Barlet says “five and ahlf attach rate”, he’s discussing additonal components sold alongside the Nintendo Switch itself. That could mean a game, or it could mean additonal Joy-Cons or just a carrying case. Regardless, having customers buy an average of 5.5 things alongside their new Switch is pretty impressive.

Growing up a 90's kid, Jeff found his love for gaming during Nintendo's heyday. Because of that, you could call him a "Nintendo Fanboy" (albeit a rational one) to this day. Outside of his passion for the gaming industry, he’s also an avid sports enthusiast (New York Giants and Philadelphia Phillies mainly) and enjoys quality/popular TV shows and movies.
