You have to believe that Director James Gunn has a lot of pressure on his shoulders. When Guardians of the Galaxy released in 2014, there was little to no expectations for it. It was essentially a test of a movie, to see if something so abstract would work in this Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only did it pass that test – it flourished. Now, 2017 brings us its sequel – Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. And boy does it look like it’s ready to follow suit.
“You Would Never Break the Chain…”
The playful banter is exchanged in bunches. The action is top notch. And each character continues to get their moments to shine. Not to mention – the music already appears to be spot on. This trailer, set to Fleetwood Mac’s epic “The Chain”, brings us everything we’re hoping for in a Guardians sequel. All the ingredients appear to be in place, Gunn just needs to pull this bad boy out of the oven and serve.
But while the final trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 looks great, some may actually consider it too much. It has a run time of almost two and a half minutes, and thus, a lot of the potential story is layed out here. At the end, we even get the tease that many have been waiting for. Ego the Living planet – in human form – telling Peter Quill that he is indeed his father. Cut to the logo and take our money.
It’s an amazing trailer, and a great final tease to lead us into these final two months. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5th.
