War for the Planet of the Apes

We’re just a couple of months away now from the release of the 3rd installment in the ‘Apes’ series. War for the Planet of the Apes finally sees the tension between man and ape go to the max, as war finally unfolds. Today, we get to see more of that than ever, as 20th Century Fox has dropped the “Final Trailer” for the film.

‘No Mercy. No Peace. This is War.”

The above words are uttered by Caesar about halfway through today’s trailer. And they couldn’t be more apt. The war is on between the humans and apes, and it’s no holds barred. The trailer reflects that, as it’s essentially nonstop action with little actual plot divulgence. As far as plot goes, here’s 20th Century Fox’s breakdown:

“In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.”

Woody Harrelson’s Colonel seems to be a fascinating character. Within the trailer we get a hint of a conversation between he and Caesar while the latter is captive. The Colonel, in a sociopathic way, tells Caesar not to take their situation “so personally”. He’s the human’s military leader – but also a cold and calculated jerk. And Harrelson delivers perfectly. It’ll be exciting to see he and Andy Serkis’ dynamic when War for the Planet of the Apes premieres on July 14th.

Growing up a 90's kid, Jeff found his love for gaming during Nintendo's heyday. Because of that, you could call him a "Nintendo Fanboy" (albeit a rational one) to this day. Outside of his passion for the gaming industry, he’s also an avid sports enthusiast (New York Giants and Philadelphia Phillies mainly) and enjoys quality/popular TV shows and movies.
