It’s been 28 years since the conclusion of Halo Wars. The good folks aboard the Spirit of Fire have been slumbering in cryo, unaware of what’s taken place in the universe around them. Now, it’s time to wake up, and the threat in Halo Wars 2 is bigger than they can imagine.
“Two Leaders. Infinite Tactics. Endless Strategy. One Victor.”
As Captain James Cutter, you’re warned by a found A.I. named Isabel that you and your crew are in incredible danger. The threat? Atriox. Leading a group called The Banished, Atriox has risen to power since the demise of the Covenant. And the crew of the Spirit of Fire is next.
The trailer below is quite amazing. The CG is stellar and the cinematic does a great job of making the stakes feel high. Atriox is a legitimate threat, but that doesn’t stop Captain Cutter from rallying the troops.
There’s a lot to be excited about within Halo Wars 2. Microsoft promises the ability to “lead armies of Spartans and other Halo fighting forces like Warthogs, Scorpions and exciting new units in a brutal war against a terrifying new enemy.” But more specifically, you’ll have the to do that across three distinct game modes.
Campaign in which you progress through the title’s narrative. Multiplayer, which is pretty self explanatory. And the new Blitz mode which puts card gameplay in the mix and has apparently been testing quite well within the game’s beta program.
We don’t have long to wait now. Halo Wars 2 launches on Xbox One February 21st.
