War for the Planet of the Apes Trailer

No more hesitation. No more peace. It’s go time. The first trailer for War for the Planet of the Apes dropped this morning. And it sure as hell looks to be headed our way with a bang.

“All of Human History Has Led to this Moment…”

Woody Harrelson’s “Colonel” is our human focal point of this film. He’s described as “a ruthless and megalomaniacal senior military colonel and the leader of the human armies.” There is also a young girl in this trailer whose presence is heavily felt. She’s a constant presence in the background of the trailer, often around the orangutan Maurice. It feel as though the two have some sort of bond. But it also wouldn’t be shocking to me if she was related to Harrelson’s Colonel somehow.

Harrelson drops some heavy dialogue towards the end of the trailer. “All of human history has led to this moment. The irony is we created you. And nature has been punishing us ever since. This is our last stand. And if we lose, it will be a planet of apes…” Director Matt Reeves is really doing a great job of making it feel like the end game is near. Here an official plot summary for War for the Planet of the Apes as well as today’s new trailer:

“In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.”

War for the Planet of the Apes releases on July 14th.
