Released back in late August, Lara Croft Go was somewhat of a surprise mobile hit coming out of Square Enix Montreal. Coming off of Hitman Go, the studio truly upped themselves and brought a unique and quality title to the mobile market.
The studio, and Lara Croft Go, are officially being recognized now – and not for the first time. Apple’s App Store has now titled it as their 2015 Game of the Year, just shy of a week after The Game Awards named it Mobile Game of the Year and the Canadian Videogames Awards doing the same.
If you haven’t paid much attention to Lara Croft Go, here is Square Enix’s description of the mobile Game of the Year:
The turn-based puzzle adventure casts players as the iconic Lara Croft as she explores the ancient ruins of a long forgotten civilization. Over the span of six chapters, players must help Lara fight menacing enemies, overcome dangerous obstacles and traps, and ultimately, uncover the myth of the Queen of Venom. Along the way, players can collect ancient relics hidden throughout the game world to earn extra Lara Croft features and costumes for the most nostalgic fans.
Patrick Naud, head of Square Enix Montreal, had this to say about the award:
“From its legacy to its dedicated fan base, the Lara Croft franchise demanded and deserved the best GO adaptation we could possibly deliver. We worked tirelessly to make Lara Croft Go a truly special experience, and being chosen by Apple over so many other games is a humbling reflection of our team’s passion and hard work.”
Lara Croft Go is currently $4.99 on the App Store.
