Welcome back, folks! May we all have a happy and healthy 2017 ahead of us. With plenty of good games to boot! One of them though, is officially dead. Microsoft dropped the news yesterday that the Platinum Games developed exclusive, Scalebound, is officially canceled.

So Much For Our Dragon BFFs

Cited as being simply a “business decision,” Microsoft and Platinum Games have parted ways on the project:

“After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for “Scalebound.” We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including “Halo Wars 2,” “Crackdown 3,” “State of Decay 2,” “Sea of Thieves” and other great experiences.”

The last we heard anything on Scalebound was back in September. Since then, the project – headed by Platinum Games director Hideki Kamiya – went dark. Many were hyped for the project. However, those that were able to go hands on with it at events knew that the game had quite a ways to go before being retail ready.

This is the first we’ve heard Microsoft mention the name Crackdown 3 in quite a while. So it’s reassuring that that project has found its footing. It’s disappointing to be sure, but the cancelation was probably for the best. The two studios will now focus on the numerous other projects in their pipelines.

Growing up a 90's kid, Jeff found his love for gaming during Nintendo's heyday. Because of that, you could call him a "Nintendo Fanboy" (albeit a rational one) to this day. Outside of his passion for the gaming industry, he’s also an avid sports enthusiast (New York Giants and Philadelphia Phillies mainly) and enjoys quality/popular TV shows and movies.
