At today’s Nintendo Direct stream, Nintendo announced two distinct and diverging play styles that take the form of different stories within Fire Emblem, separated as two different games. One offering a more open world and story that takes shape around your actions and choices, similarly to a Dragon Age or Mass Effect. The other will be a more linear story like the past Fire Emblem games. However, this more standard approach will feature a more complicated storyline as well as a higher difficulty

These two different games seem to look to make the gamse as a whole more accessible to new players without alienating those who enjoy a more “hardcore” experience. So far, these have only been confirmed for Japanese release in 2016, but I feel like it’s a fairly safe assumption that they’ll see North American releases after the success of Fire Emblem: Awakening.
