We knew the announcement was coming, but today it’s here. EA has officially announced Need For Speed. No, I didn’t forget to finish that sentence. It’s just Need For Speed.

EA has confirmed the next entry, developed by Ghost Games, will be a “full reboot” of the 21 year old franchise. Although, based upon the official teaser trailer, once could argue the new Need For Speed appears to be heavily influenced by Need for Speed: Underground installments.

The teaser image that was introduced the day before the teaser trailer.

The teaser plays out as if we’re seeing home video of underground street racing. It looks fantastic, and EA states that “all footage captured in-game”. But you can just ask fans of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt how that works out this early in development.

EA and Ghost Games aren’t giving us much more than the teaser. They did confirm though that the official trailer will release on June 15th – which coincidentally is the date of EA’s E3 2015 press conference. Funny how that timing works. Checkout the teaser below, but try to keep those RPMs in check. Need For Speed is planned for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Growing up a 90's kid, Jeff found his love for gaming during Nintendo's heyday. Because of that, you could call him a "Nintendo Fanboy" (albeit a rational one) to this day. Outside of his passion for the gaming industry, he’s also an avid sports enthusiast (New York Giants and Philadelphia Phillies mainly) and enjoys quality/popular TV shows and movies.
