We’ve known for a while now that Shovel Knight would be implementing a cooperative mode for the Wii U. Instead of purchasing the new co-op mode through DLC, players instead will be forced to buy the upcoming Shovel Knight amiibo figure. Tap the hero onto the Wii U Gamepad and you’re introduced to a whole new way to experience the game.
Yacht Club Games had now shed a bit more light on how co-op mode will play out. And really, it’s just more Shovel Knight, albeit now with a friend. It’s actually impressive to watch the below trailer and see some of the intricacies between two co-op players. Witness two players attack Shovel Knight bosses from separate sides of the screen, and at one point volleying a boss back and forth, it’s damn near artistic in its own way.
Players won’t have much longer to wait to get their hands on the Shovel Knight amiibo. It’ll cost $13 in the U.S. and launch on January 8th. It lands in Europe on December 11th.
