Ever since Nintendo showed the existence of Super Mario Run, fans have wanted to know more. Specifically, when can we get it and at what cost? Today, we finally have those details.
Nintendo Looks to be Doing Mobile Right
Super Mario Run will launch first on Apple devices as of December 15th, 2016. Yes, exactly a month from today. Nintendo touts the game as “a new Mario game you can play with one hand!” They drive that point home with today’s new screen:
The soonish release date isn’t the best news from today though. Nintendo promises that Super Mario Run isn’t poised to nickel and dime you as most apps do. Instead, you’ll pay $9.99 which “will grant unlimited access to each of the three modes in this release.” You can, however, download Super Mario Run for free. But it will essentially act as a demo that will end after a certain number of plays.
Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Doug Bowser (yes, really) was quoted saying that “the wait is almost over for a Super Mario game that can be played on mobile devices. Developed under the direction of Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, Super Mario Run brings a new take on the series’ beloved action-platforming gameplay to iPhone and iPad for the first time.”
