It wasn’t a complete shock when Nintendo revealed that Super Mario Maker for 3DS was a thing. I mean, it’s kind of an obvious fit. But with the reveal, there were also caveats. And Nintendo broke all of those down with a new trailer.
“Imagine Bowser, but Bigger! With a Smaller Bowser as a Sidekick, with Wings!”
One of the glaring sores with this game is the lack of ability to just upload and download levels from the internet. That’s a major bummer, and a confusing one at that. Players can swap levels with players via local internet, but unlike the Wii U version, you aren’t free to upload and download as you please. I don’t know if this is a parental control as more children play on Nintendo’s mobile devices than consoles, or if it’s a technical limitation. Regardless, it’s a hinderance.
The majority of the game is intact though. And Nintendo does a great job in the below four and half-minute trailer of breaking them down. And while you aren’t free to explore downloaded courses as you are on consoles, Nintendo is packing in 100 premade levels. Oh, and there’s awesome medals to earn in each of those levels if well if you play well enough.
Regardless of it’s strings attached, Super Mario Maker for 3DS is going to be an awesome addition to the platform’s library. The game is available in just a few weeks on December 2nd.
