Nioh - Dragon of the North

Nioh seemingly came out of nowhere when it released nearly three months ago to a fantastic critical acclaim. It’s no surprise that Team Ninja wants to deliver more from the franchise. And they’ll be doing just that with their newly announced DLC.

No, This Isn’t a Game of Thrones Reference.

The upcoming DLC will be available on PlayStation 4 next week. It features Lord Masamune, “a well-known historical figure who is both brilliant and ruthless.” Team Ninja describes their new playable character as “being an impulsive leader who was wildly arrogant of his abilities.” They continue, “[he believes he] was superior to most men, yet at the same time greatly devoted to the his land and subjects. We found this disparity in his personality to be something that we could utilize to create a memorable character and a formidable adversary for William.”

Here’s the developer’s rundown of the DLC:

“This new chapter picks up after William’s valiant victory in restoring peace to Japan. In keeping with the tradition of our inspiration through Japanese history and mythology, the central character for this new chapter is based on Lord Masamune Date, the ruler of the Sendai feudal domain in the Keicho Era (about 400 years ago). In our opinion, his personality and exploits in history lend himself to become a key player to contend with in the story.”

Players will also be advancing their ammunition with the latest update. Items being included are “new Guardian Spirits, armor, ninja skills, magic and a brand new weapon called the Odachi.” Finally, Team Ninja has confirmed that “the long awaiting PvP feature” arrives with the next update as well.

Nioh‘s Dragon of the North arrives on PlayStation 4 next week.

Growing up a 90's kid, Jeff found his love for gaming during Nintendo's heyday. Because of that, you could call him a "Nintendo Fanboy" (albeit a rational one) to this day. Outside of his passion for the gaming industry, he’s also an avid sports enthusiast (New York Giants and Philadelphia Phillies mainly) and enjoys quality/popular TV shows and movies.
