In what is sure to get gamers across the globe raising their eyebrows, Nintendo of America has announced that a new Nintendo Direct is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Pacific, 6:00 p.m. Eastern tomorrow.
That date is, of course, April 1st – a.k.a April Fools’ Day. Nintendo swears though, “don’t let this date fool you: This is no joke!” Well, now that that is settled, what will the Direct be covering? Nintendo of America just so happens to have an answer for us on that as well:
Catch a new Nintendo Direct on April 1 at 3 p.m. PT for the latest on upcoming Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games. Stick around after the Direct for a live Nintendo Treehouse presentation featuring one of our spring releases.
So, it looks to be both a Wii U and 3DS focused event. Obviously there likely won’t be any coverage of The Legend of Zelda for Wii U, as that title has been moved to 2015. But Splatoon is poised to release at some point in May, which coincides with “spring”, so it’s likely a significant portion of the Direct will be focused on that. A release date is a safe bet too.
The rest, however, is a mystery. While we can’t guarantee anything, it’s likely Nintendo will wait to hold their big guns until June for their E3 Nintendo Direct. This one will likely tidy up things for April, May, and the early portion of June. But perhaps we will get a date for Mewtwo’s release in Super Smash Bros.?
