We knew that we would be visiting random planets across the solar system come June, we just didn’t know exactly when. Well, a launch date has been scheduled. Hello Games has announced that No Man’s Sky will launch on the PlayStation 4 on June 21st.
Hello Games’ Sean Murray made the announcement earlier this morning. He acknowledged that he and his staff have been a bit M.I.A. since their E3 demonstration last year, but recently his team has seen “the pieces fall into place” and allowed some of the game’s press into the studio to go hand’s on with the title:
“In No Man’s Sky you can trade, fight, explore, and survive in a boundless, computer-generated universe. It’s a vast, open game, and always a hard one to demonstrate quickly, but recently we let some people from the press loose in No Man’s Sky.
We pulled a few all-nighters this week in preparation! It was incredibly scary for us, but the moment we saw people start claiming discoveries, shouting and laughing at each other’s screens, we knew the hard work was paying off, and could collapse contentedly in the corner.
They got to see new features like how to survive on hazardous planets and how to learn alien languages, and for the first time we showed off some alien races you will be able to communicate with.”
In addition to the news of a release date, Murray also revealed that No Man’s Sky would be getting a retail version to coincide with the launch of the digital copies June 21st. It will also be available for PC. Take a gander below for a look at the box art you’ll be seeing hit shelves in June.
