Outlast was a relatively an under the radar survival horror title from developer Red Barrels. It released on Steam back in September of 2013, then hit PlayStation 4 in the following February as a PlayStation Plus title. It garnered pretty favorable reviews, enough so to justify a sequel. And Red Barrels is providing us just that. Via a new teaser trailer today, the studio has announced Outlast 2.
“No conflict is ever black and white. But once the dust has settled, the victors get to decide who was right and who was wrong. Who is good and who is evil. Human nature pushes us to extremes of violence and depravity, which we then justify by divine inspiration and a promise of paradise to come. Horror rises from desperation and blind faith. Outlast 2 will test your faith, pushing players to a place where going mad is the only sane thing to do.”
The above is Red Barrel’s initial summation of Outlast 2. It appears as though racial divides and bigotry will be a central focus of the storytelling this go around. Little can be learned from the teaser, besides the fact that racism is quite potent within its story. Red Barrel’s co-founder Philippe Morin did confirm though that Outlast 2 is set in the same universe as Outlast, and that the game would feature a different location and characters from the original outing.
Checkout the teaser for Outlast 2 below. Morin hopes to have the game ready for a fall 2016 release on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. As soon as there’s more, you’ll find it here at VictoryPoint.tv.
