Kazunori Yamauchi, CEO of Polyphony Digital, has announced the next entry in the Gran Turismo series: Gran Turismo Sport.
Gran Turismo Sport looks to be heavily online focused. Yamauchi announced “two flagship FIA championships running simultaneously throughout the year.” Players will work together, and against one another, to compete within the two cups. The two cups are distinguished as the Nations Cup and the Manufacturer Fan Cup.
By entering in the Nations Cup, you’ll be working alongside fellow countrymen to get your nation’s rank higher within the overall standings. The same is true for the Manufacturer Fan Cup, where you’ll select your manufacturer of choice and work to make their car models rank above the rest of the competition.
A really cool thing to note: Mr. Yamauchi also mentioned that at the FIA World Final, an actual live event where all country and manufacturer representatives gather each year, the Grand Turismo Sport winners will be awarded alongside the actual FIA sanctioned race winners.
We don’t have a release window yet for Gran Turismo Sport, but Kazunori Yamauchi did reveal that a public beta will take place beginning “early next year”. Yamauchi also revealed that the game will feature PlayStation VR.
