With just six weeks from release, I feel like Logan is still somehow flying under the radar. It doesn’t have Avengers style hype around it. Hell, it doesn’t really seem to have any hype behind it. But from what we’ve seen in just two trailers, it looks incredible.
“We Have Ourselves An X-Men Fan.”
While the first Logan trailer focused heavily on its titular character, this second version spent much of the spotlight on whom this film is likely really about: Laura Kinney. The young girl you’ve been seeing alongside our retired Wolverine, has a particular bond with him. “She’s very much like you” Charles Xavier says to Logan. Well, Charles, that’s because she is him.
As hinted at in the post-credit sequence of X-Men: Apocalypse, Laura Kinney is X-23. That is, she’s a female clone of Wolverine. The plot is described as this: “In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hideout on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.”
How X-23 comes to find Logan and Professor X is unclear. But I could guess that she was goaded into finding them through Charles’ mind tricks. She’s special, and it’s clear through clips that Charles is very vested in her well being. It isn’t long before Logan is too. But she’s wild – and dangerous. Much like a younger version of someone else we know…
Logan hits theaters on March 3rd. Checkout the awesome new trailer today.
