Prey for the Gods (with an “e” in Prey, get it?), looks mighty familiar. But for a newer generation of gamers, maybe not. Shadow of the Colossus released nearly ten years ago to the day – October 18, 2005. Sony has yet to anything new with the cherished IP, so developer No Matter has decided to take their formula and run with it.
The No Matter website describes their vision for Prey for the Gods:
“Prey for the Gods is a brutal journey set on a desolate frozen island, where your only chance of survival is to destroy the very gods you believe in. You play a lone hero sent to the edge of a dying world to discover the mystery behind a never-ending winter. Arriving with only the clothes on your back, you must survive the colossal dangers that you encounter. To restore balance and reclaim the land from the brink, you will be faced with questions that not even a God knows the answer to.”
The team at No Matter is impressively composed of only three developers. They seem to hint at Prey for the Gods‘ Shadow of the Colossus inspiration in their bio, stating that they work “in the evening hours to create the game they’ve always wanted. With the simple goal to create colossal moments we’ve set forth on our labor of love “Prey for the Gods”. You probably noticed the use of “colossal” in there. I think we can all assuming that was intentional.
The trailer looks quite good though, especially considering what we’re seeing is from a trio of developers working on the project in the evenings for just over a year. It’s headed to Windows/Mac, but no release window was given. Check out the reveal trailer for yourself below, and let’s pray for a colossal adventure down the road.
