A report from the Japanese newspaper Nikkei indicates that this might be the last year of production for Nintendo’s short lived (this is its fourth year) Wii U console.

Nintendo has yet to confirm the report, but it wouldn’t be entirely surprising that the company would want to cease production. 2016 has been riddled with rumors around the company’s next console, code named ‘Nintendo NX.’ Add to the the almost stagnant Wii U lineup, and the writing was on the wall.

Don’t get me wrong, 2015 brought with it both Splatoon and Super Mario Maker; both exceptional games, but other than that, it’s been a wasteland on the console. 2016 brings a new Star Fox game, and (maybe) a new Zelda title.

Yeah, it’s time to take the Wii U out back to the shed.
