Sorry, last generation console owners, it looks as though Rockstar is finally moving on. The mega developer has just revealed GTA Online Freemode Events, and their exclusive to Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
To start with, Rockstar is touting a future of seamless integration for GTA Online that consists of zero load times in-between events:
“Taking full advantage of the latest generation of consoles and PC hardware, there are no menus, lobbies, or load times – just an open Freemode session filled with Friends, Crewmates, rivals, and randoms where spontaneous and chaotic new games and challenges will appear.”
Some of the initial GTA Online Freemode events are Penned In, King of the Castle, Moving Target and Hunt the Beast. With Penned In, players in vehicles much drive around San Andreas while trying to remain in an ever-enclosing dome. Fall behind or be forced outside the dome and KABOOM, you lose.
King of the Castle is just as it sounds. It’s every person for themselves as each player attempts to mount, and defend, the top of a designated building. Moving Target is an all vs. one style game where players must take out a heavily armored vehicle before it reaches its final destination. Finally, Hunt the Beast sees one player become transformed into a more agile “beast” foe that becomes hidden on the map for extended periods. You have to hunt and kill the beast before it crosses all of its designated checkpoints to win the round.
Rockstar is promising “many more” modes within the GTA Online Freemode update. The package is coming sooner than you might expect – September 15th. So clear your calendar, Tuesday is going to be a hell of a lot of fun.
