Nintendo NX Controller 3

Update:

Sorry Nintendo fans (or are we thankful?), the controller is indeed fake. Here’s the reveal video:

Original Story:

While news swirls (which Nintendo denies) that the Wii U is ending its production life, we may be getting a glimpse as to what’s next. A Reddit user uploaded some pretty convincing images earlier of what appears to be the Nintendo NX controller.

Nintendo NX Controller

The Nintendo NX has long been rumored to be a console/portable “hybrid” of a system. Our Reddit doesn’t exactly confirm that, but does mention that ” this is the controller unit for the console” much like the Wii U Gamepad. He also mentions that the coveted controller on his desk is a “dev-kit, so it’s not the final design, obviously.” Here are the submitter’s notes on the portable controller’s functionality:

  • Only the upper ‘nubs’ of the sticks move. The bottom part is static (kind of like the circle pad, but it moves along the bottom ‘sphere’.
  • The rollers on the top feel and look pretty much identical to a mouse scroll-wheel. Though I do don’t believe this will be the final design.
  • Haptic feedback is feels like Apples ‘taptic’ engine. Not like regular rumble.
  • 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom

There have also been rumors that Nintendo plans to shed more light on their next console entry ahead of E3 this year. Whether that is via a Nintendo Direct or some other means is unclear. I suppose then, after that reveal, E3 would act as a NX extravaganza for the company. Gander at the images in all their glory and let us know below if you think it’s legit. The images do match up pretty much exactly with the patent that Nintendo filed back in December. But of course, any hoaxer would sure use that to their advantage.
