To promote indie titles on Nintendo systems, the company hosted “Nindies@Night” just ahead of PAX Prime. One of the headlines of the event was yet another 3rd party amiibo headed to shelves – and this one has nothing to do with Super Smash Bros.
Shovel Knight amiibo is headed our way.
Yacht Club Games’ Shovel Knight was revealed to be the first independent studio/character to be immortalized into amiibo form. But the amiibo isn’t just for looks and gimmick functionality, it opens up an entirely new mode for the Wii U version of the game: co-op.
Using your Shovel Knight amiibo will unlock co-op mode for Nintendo’s home console. The amiibo will work on 3DS versions of the game, but co-op won’t be included due to the lack of online functionality. The amiibo will also unlock exclusive challenge stages and customizable gear.
A price or release date hasn’t been revealed yet for the Shovel Knight amiibo, but we’re expecting it sooner rather than later. Checkout the reveal below.
