With the game having gone gold back on October 21st, we’re close to living in a reality where The Last Guardian is actually in our homes. We have less than a month until the game’s release, and Sony is beginning to churn the marketing cogs.
“Discover the legend of The Last Guardian.”
Today’s trailer really doesn’t give us much on the game. There’s a lot of falling, so there’s that. I haven’t been following the title super closely. How can you over a 9 year development cycle? But what’s in today’s trailer I feel as though I’ve seen before for the most part. Sony dubbed it their “Action Gameplay Trailer”, but the only real action going on is our playable hero and his feathered dog friend falling off cliffs left and right.
Even the game’s official bio doesn’t seem to know what the hell is going on:
“Facing unknown dangers in a strange and mystical land, an ordinary young boy and his gigantic feathered friend must rely on each other to survive in this harrowing story of friendship and trust.”
We do get a quick glimpse of what appears to be the villains of the story too. They’re cultish looking beings wearing masks. They also seem to have their own feathered dog friend thingy doing their bidding. You can catch that quickly at the end of the thirty second trailer.
The Last Guardian hits the PlayStation 4 on December 6th. Let’s hope it will be worth the wait.
