This moment has been in the works for well over a year now. Ever since Sony and Marvel put their egos to the side and negotiated terms, we’ve been waiting for this. Spider-Man is on screen in a Marvel Cinematic Universe trailer.
The final Captain America: Civil War trailer was released today, and within it we are finally introduced to Tom Holland’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Holland, just 19, is playing a decidedly younger version of the character which puts him back to his classic high school roots. This obviously makes Spider-Man much more green as far as superheroes go, especially compared to the Avengers who have been saving the world for years now.
The trailer is heavy, in length and emotion. We get to see more of Tony and Cap’s struggle than ever before. But finally, Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark tires of the back and forth, and calls up “Underoos!” to come in for the assist. Cue Holland’s Spider-Man, a major part of a scene that we’ve seen multiple portions of in the previous trailers. He snares Cap with a few web blasts and grabs his shield. He acrobatically lands and announces: “Hi, everyone…”
The eyes of his suit appear to be CG much like Deadpool’s for his film. The suit itself if essentially what we would expect, but with a bit more modern flair much like the MCU has done with Captain America’s outfit. The entire trailer is something special for comic fans. Take it all in for yourself just below. Captain America: Civil War hits theaters on May 6th. Advanced tickets are on sale as of today.
