In what now seems like the most obvious move ever, Nintendo is converting its Wii U hit and giving us Super Mario Maker 3DS. The title is poised to land on Nintendo’s portable later this year.
“This new game is all about playing courses anytime, anywhere.”
The majority of the levels from the Wii U version will be playable on the Nintendo 3DS. However, the mystery mushroom feature has been omitted from Super Mario Maker 3DS as it’s been dubbed a console exclusive. The game will come with 100 built-in levels made by Nintendo from the start. These levels also feature Medal Objectives. Said Objectives can range in feats such as collecting all of a levels coins, or defeating every enemy in the stage before hitting that flag pole.
While the game will allow you to go online and play most of the levels from the Wii U version of Super Mario Maker, not all levels will be transferred over. Also, “in the spirit of spontaneity”, you won’t be able to enter specific course codes either. Although you’re free to search through the Recommended Courses list as you please.
You can use the 3DS’ Street Pass and Local Wireless to share levels, as well as to collaborate with level designers in your area. You actually can’t upload levels to the internet as whole on the 3DS version – which is odd to say the least. Super Mario Maker 3DS lands in your lap on December 2nd.
