Last week Nintendo revealed that Lucas would be available for Super Smash Bros. on June 15th. Many of us (well, me) assumed that the announcement was made then to make room for new Super Smash Bros. goodness during Nintendo’s Digital Event. We weren’t exactly right, but we weren’t far off either…
Nintendo has announced that they will be airing an entirely separate video presentation specifically for Super Smash Bros. on Sunday, June 14th at 7:40 a.m. PT, 10:40 a.m. ET. Masahiro Sakurai, director of the Super Smash Bros. series, will host the live stream event.
This is only good news, of course. Holding an event specifically for Super Smash Bros. before E3 means two things: One, there is enough news specifically for Super Smash Bros. that Nintendo is able to host its own event. And two, the rest of Nintendo’s gaming catalogue won’t have to carve any time out of Nintendo’s Digital Event for the frenzied fighter.
So what exactly will be covered? Lucas will be releasing that day, as will the MiiVerse stage for Wii U. Additionally, a new Splatoon costume will be available for the Mii Fighters. Each of those will be touched upon (hopefully) briefly to allow plenty of time for the title’s newest information.
New characters? Nintendo’s poll has been running for a few months now. Perhaps they’ve narrowed down their first couple selections and are ready to tease? Perhaps… We can only speculate, until Sunday. We’ll see you then.
