The Division

Variety reported last month that Jake Gyllenhaal was poised to star and produce in a film adaptation of Ubisoft’s The Division. Those talks appear to be no more – The Division movie has been officially announced.

Gyllenhaal Giving Another Game-Based Movie A Go

Gyllenhaal was confirmed to be formally attached as of this morning courtesy of a Ubisoft announcement. Adjacent to him as a co-star will be Jessica Chastain, whom won the 2013 Best Actress Golden Globe for her role in Zero Dark Thirty. Here’s a blurb from Ubisoft’s blog:

“In addition to starring in the film, both Chastain and Gyllenhaal will be a part of the development process through their production companies, Freckle Films and Nine Stories, respectively. The pandemic-stricken streets of The Division are filled with countless stories of love, loss, treachery, and heroism, but we’ll have to wait to find out what avenues the film will explore.”

Matt Phelps, Vice President of Ubisoft Motion Pictures stated that “attaching Jake and Jessica is part of our development philosophy of working closely with top talent from the earliest stages to collaborate on a high quality film.” Other than that, no real details were shared.

Ubisoft Motion Pictures’ first major endeavor, Assassin’s Creed, comes to theaters later this year. They’ll be paying close attention to have well the Michael Fassbender film does. No word yet as to where the studio will be targeting as a  release date for The Division.

Growing up a 90's kid, Jeff found his love for gaming during Nintendo's heyday. Because of that, you could call him a "Nintendo Fanboy" (albeit a rational one) to this day. Outside of his passion for the gaming industry, he’s also an avid sports enthusiast (New York Giants and Philadelphia Phillies mainly) and enjoys quality/popular TV shows and movies.
