Rayman, one of gaming’s most iconic characters, has turned 20 years old today. The platforming icon has been a staple of both 2D and 3D gaming for two decades. During this time the limbless hero has starred in critically acclaimed hits such as 1999’s Rayman 2: The Great Escape, and 2013’s Rayman Legends.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary, Ubisoft held a livestream (which is currently ongoing at the time of writing) on their Twitch channel with series creator Michel Ancel, and other staff members at Ubisoft Montpellier. Ancel played through Rayman’s very first adventure, the titular 1995 release, and took questions directly from fans. An archive of the stream can be found here.

Ubisoft also announced the release date for Rayman Adventures, which is the latest mobile release in the series. While already available on Apple TV, Rayman Adventures will be available on mobile platforms on December 3. The latest title finds Rayman teaming up with new companions called the Incrediballs.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot stressed that Rayman is still a major part of the company despite turning 20. “Rayman is one of Ubisoft’s most iconic and beloved characters, and he is still going strong 20 years after his creation. That is a testament to our teams’ expertise and passion, and our ability to take the Rayman franchise in exciting new directions,” said Guillemot.

Yves also teased more games to be revealed in the future, “As a fan of Rayman from Day one, it’s always an exciting and special moment for me when we welcome a new installment in the series. I’m looking forward to Rayman fans getting their hands on Rayman Adventures and to creating more adventures and fun with him in the years to come.”

Tyler has enjoyed video games, both large and small, ever since he was a child with a Sega Genesis controller in hand. When he isn’t playing through strange retro games like Snoopy’s Silly Sports Spectacular, he can be found meditating under a waterfall to grow his beard or eating pizza. Probably the latter.
