Last night Telltale Games celebrated Valentine’s Day with zombies as they livestreamed the first 6 minutes of The Walking Dead: Michonne. Thankfully, we have the archive of the opening moments from the first installment of the three-part series, so you won’t have to wait until February 23 to see how Michonne’s journey begins.

Check out the first 6 minutes of the first episode, titled In Too Deep, in the video below!

The first footage of the upcoming adventure game reveals that players will be getting more of the same dialogue-driven gameplay that fans have grown to love from Telltale. The opening 6 minutes show Michonne chopping down bushes, through quick time events, with her signature machete, and then of course dealing with some wretched zombies the same way.

What is perhaps most interesting is that the video showed the game cutting between locations, which showed that the game’s protagonist might not be in the best of mental states after dealing with the apocalypse. This is an interesting twist, and something Telltale hasn’t really touched upon in previous seasons of The Walking Dead. An unreliable narrator might be old news in other mediums, but it’s still relatively fresh in video games.

It will be interesting to see how Telltale handles such a complex topic, and thankfully we won’t have to wait long to see how they do it. The Walking Dead: Michonne‘s first episode releases February 23 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. The second episode, Give No Shelter, will launch a month later in March, with the story concluding in April with the final chapter being called What We Deserve.

While mechanically similar, it looks like The Walking Dead: Michonne will add enough new story elements to stay interesting. We’ll be able to find out for ourselves come February 23, so stay tuned to Victory Point for all news regarding the highly anticipated Telltale Games title.

Tyler has enjoyed video games, both large and small, ever since he was a child with a Sega Genesis controller in hand. When he isn’t playing through strange retro games like Snoopy’s Silly Sports Spectacular, he can be found meditating under a waterfall to grow his beard or eating pizza. Probably the latter.
