It’s not every day, or year, or decade, that a surfing title is announced. But that’s just what Climax Studios has done. The crew has revealed that Surf World Series will be ready to catch some waves next year.
Will It Be Tony Hawk 3, Or Tony Hawk 5?
While we got a trailer today, there is very little to be gleamed from it. The game’s main description encourages us to “grab your board and take on legendary waves in Surf World Series.” In doing that, we’ll visit 5 of the world’s most iconic surf spots. Two of which are Bell’s Beach, Australia and Waimea Bay, Hawaii.
The game will feature online leaderboards that you can compete in across 45 single player challenges. Or, you can enroll in online tournaments featuring a 16 man field. The game sounds to lean on the arcadey side of things while still grounded in realism. Your move arsenal states that you can “perform some of surfing’s most intense and original tricks, including the Superman and Sushi Roll.”
It sounds as though Climax Studios is really pushing the visuals for Surf World Series. In the trailer, the character models look like they could use some work. However, the water effects appear phenomenal. The developers promise “stunning horizons, golden coastlines and surging waves.” The studio is also promising 6 playable characters with “millions” of ways to customize them.
Surf World Series is targeting the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC sometime next year.
