Zack Snyder

This is news you never wish to have to write up. Due to a personal tragedy within his immediate family, Zack Snyder has decided to step down as the runner of the upcoming Justice League film.

Times Like This Hopefully Put Focus on the More Important Things in Life

Snyder’s daughter, Autumn Snyder, took her own life back in March at the age of 20. Following the devastation, Zack threw himself back into the film hoping that would be a way to get through it. He’s finally decided that wasn’t the best of decisions:

Zack Snyder broke the news to the Hollywood Reporter:

“In my mind, I thought it was a cathartic thing to go back to work, to just bury myself and see if that was the way through it,” said an emotional Snyder in an interview Monday in his office on the Warner Bros. lot, with Deborah sitting by his side. “The demands of this job are pretty intense. It is all-consuming. And in the last two months, I’ve come to the realization … I’ve decided to take a step back from the movie to be with my family, be with my kids, who really need me. They are all having a hard time. I’m having a hard time.”

Snyder has the full support of Warner Bros. behind his decision. None other than Joss Whedon has been deemed the next man up to handle Justice League. The movie has largely wrapped filming. Whedon will oversee post-production, as well as a few smaller scenes that Snyder determined necessary via additional shoots.

Online support for the Snyder’s has been overwhelming since the announcement. Now isn’t a time to banter back and forth about now seemingly petty decisions in comic book movies. It’s moments like these are hopefully ones that enable you to take stock as to what’s important in your lives. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Zack, his wife Deborah, and their children.

Growing up a 90's kid, Jeff found his love for gaming during Nintendo's heyday. Because of that, you could call him a "Nintendo Fanboy" (albeit a rational one) to this day. Outside of his passion for the gaming industry, he’s also an avid sports enthusiast (New York Giants and Philadelphia Phillies mainly) and enjoys quality/popular TV shows and movies.
