Ubisoft has announced that Zombi will be receiving a physical release early next year. The first-person shooter, that was originally a Wii U launch title called ZombiU, was ported to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One earlier this year. While the original Wii U title was a full-fledged retail release, Zombi was released only as a digital download.

Now gamers won’t have to download 20 gigabytes to play Zombi, as Ubisoft will be publishing a retail release. New physical copies of the PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions will release on January 21, 2016. So far Ubisoft has only announced the boxed version for Europe, but it wouldn’t be far-fetched for North America to see an announcement at a later time.

Since ZombiU was one of the few Wii U titles to use the Wii U GamePad extensively, Zombi had to be retooled to be playable on additional consoles. In addition to changing how the inventory system worked, Ubisoft also added new content to the game. This content includes new melee weapons, and engine optimization that reduces load times.

Zombi drew both praise and ire upon release, and was a polarizing title. It’s rogue-like nature, that has players playing as different survivors upon each death, and melee-focused combat were both standout mechanics for gamers that enjoyed Ubisoft’s first-person shooter.

While it’s certainly a bummer that the physical release is currently only confirmed for Europe, fans should be happy to know that both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are region free devices. This means that both consoles are import friendly, and it’s relatively hassle-free to order games from overseas. This means all gamers should be able to enjoy a physical release, as long as they are willing to import.

Let us know in the comments below if you are excited that Zombi is getting a physical release, at least in Europe, and if you will be picking it up come January 21.

Tyler has enjoyed video games, both large and small, ever since he was a child with a Sega Genesis controller in hand. When he isn’t playing through strange retro games like Snoopy’s Silly Sports Spectacular, he can be found meditating under a waterfall to grow his beard or eating pizza. Probably the latter.
